HOW TO INTERPRET IT

Read the data before you read the conclusion.

01

What this checker adds

The result brings together cloud cover, modeled visibility, precipitation, local solar altitude, twilight category, approximate Moon illumination, current NOAA geomagnetic context, local OVATION probability and nearby ADS-B aircraft. Instead of opening several unrelated services, you get one environmental snapshot with source labels.

02

How to interpret cloud cover

Cloud percentage is not a guarantee that one line of sight was blocked. Broken cloud can leave large clear gaps, and high thin cloud may transmit bright objects. Treat it as evidence that changes how plausible clear-sky explanations are, not as a binary switch.

03

Current versus historical use

This page is a live snapshot. For an older sighting use the main identifier, which requests historical/recent modeled weather for the selected hour and deliberately stops using current-only aircraft or aurora data when they no longer apply.

NEED THE FULL PICTURE?

Combine this layer with the witness description.

The main identifier adds movement, duration, number of lights, color, trail and direction so this data becomes evidence for or against specific explanations.
